Good fishing trip, minor hiccup

I booked a fishing charter with a captain for a half-day trip last week. The captain was knowledgeable and friendly, and we caught some decent fish. The boat itself was in good condition for fishing. My main concern was that communication with the owner before the trip was a little slow, it took about a day and a half to get a response to my questions about tackle rentals. Other than that, the actual experience on the water was great value for the price. I would use Boatsetter again, but hope for quicker replies next time.

Jet ski rental went well

Rented jet skis for a few hours. The process was simple. Pickup was easy. The jet skis worked great. Had a fun afternoon on the lake.

Fantastic day on the water!

I rented a pontoon boat for a sandbar hopping trip last month, and it was absolutely perfect! The booking process was so easy, and the boat owner was super responsive to my questions. We had an amazing time cruising around, and the boat was exactly as described. Everything was clean and well-maintained. We even used the paddleboard add-on which was a blast. I'm already planning my next trip with Boatsetter and have told all my friends about it. Can't wait to book another one!

Easy to get a party boat

Needed a party boat for my sister's bachelorette party, and Boatsetter came through. Found a good option pretty quick, booking was straightforward. It was easy to message the owner about bringing our own drinks and food. The boat was nice and had plenty of space for everyone. We had a really good time out on the water, no issues at all. Just a smooth day, which is what you want for something like that.

What if the weather goes south on my booking day? Say I booked a yacht for a sunset cruise and it starts pouring, do I just lose my money?

B Brittany Torres 1 week ago
Naw, they usually have a weather policy. You can often reschedule or get a credit if it's really bad weather that makes it unsafe. Owners are usually pretty understanding.

It's in their cancellation policy somewhere. You should definitely check it out before booking, but I've heard people get their money back or a raincheck for bad weather.

Does the listed price include fuel costs or is that something I pay extra for when I return the boat?

H Hannah P. 2 weeks ago
Fuel is almost always extra, unless the listing specifically says it's included. You usually top it off yourself or pay the owner for what you used.

Pretty sure fuel is separate. It's like renting a car, you gotta fill it up. Best to confirm with the boat owner directly though before your trip.

Thinking of renting a pontoon for a bachelor party in Miami next month. Do I need like, a special license for that, or can anyone drive it?

K Karen L. 5 days ago
Nah, for most rentals you don't need a license yourself. Boatsetter usually has options with a captain included, or you can find bareboat rentals if you've got the experience and the boat owner approves.

Depends on the boat and your state's laws, but if you're getting a captain through them, then no, you're just along for the ride. Definitely check the listing though, some owners are chill, some want proof of experience.

Hey, saw a boat I liked but it's a bit pricey. Are there any discounts for first-time users or like, a referral thing for friends?

S Sean J. 3 weeks ago
Yeah, they almost always have a first-time booking discount. I got like $25 or $50 off my first trip last summer. Check around for codes before you book.

They do referral credits too! If you sign up through someone else's link, you both get something, I think. And sometimes multi-day bookings get a small discount.

How legit is this whole Boatsetter thing? Like, am I gonna get scammed out of my money or end up on a broken boat? Seen some sketchy stuff online.

A Amanda Mitchell 1 month ago
It's pretty legit. They have insurance coverage for rentals, which is a big plus. It's not like some random guy just renting out his boat without any backup.

I've used it a few times and never had an issue. It's basically like Airbnb for boats. Just make sure to communicate with the owner and check reviews before you commit.
